This project involved the complete architectural and interior design of a bespoke family home for a farming family of five, located on a rural acreage property in Victoria's High Country. The clients sought a home that would reflect the character of the alpine region while remaining practical, energy-efficient, and achievable within a realistic construction budget. The design draws inspiration from traditional High Country architecture, incorporating gable roof forms, cathedral ceilings, exposed timber beams, and expansive glazing to frame the surrounding landscape and maximise natural light. A key objective was to create a warm and inviting home that celebrates its rural setting while providing contemporary comfort and functionality for a growing family. Working closely with the clients from concept through to detailed design, I was responsible for both the building design and the complete interior design package. The interior spaces were carefully curated to complement the architectural language of the home, with a strong focus on natural materials, custom joinery, bespoke furniture elements, and handcrafted timber detailing throughout. A significant feature of the project was the integration of custom-designed timber beams, feature architraves, and tailored furniture pieces, creating a cohesive and highly personalised interior environment. Every space was designed to balance aesthetics, practicality, and durability, reflecting the lifestyle needs of a busy farming family. The residence also incorporates smart-home technology and high-performance building principles, allowing the home to maintain an internal temperature of approximately 19 degrees year-round while reducing ongoing energy consumption. Large north-facing glazing, carefully considered insulation strategies, and passive solar design principles work together to enhance thermal comfort and strengthen the connection between the interior spaces and the surrounding 40-acre property. The result is a timeless contemporary farmhouse that combines regional character, modern technology, and bespoke craftsmanship, delivering a highly functional family home that feels deeply connected to its High Country setting.
